Meet Karthik Rammohan, our Head of Wind and Solar Engineering in India. His role encompasses several responsibilities, including leading and collaborating with other departments in the most optimized and cost-effective ways. These responsibilities allow Karthik to apply his professional knowledge while ensuring an open, entrepreneurial office environment.
What do you do as head of wind & solar engineering?
“Overall, I have two main roles: Head of wind and solar engineering and leading the office. My primary responsibility is facilitating wind and solar resource assessment and modelling collaboration. The wind and solar assessment is conducted from the project’s origination to its construction to identify and mitigate potential risks across all project phases. Besides that, I am responsible for the office in India, overseeing the environment to maintain a work-life balance and entrepreneurial mindset.”
What is the best thing about being head of wind & solar engineering?
“One of Blue Power Partner’s key strengths is the ability to foster a certain degree of openness in the work environment. I like this as it embraces new concepts, processes, and methodologies, allowing me to evolve in my role. Additionally, we can enjoy flexibility in our work schedule to accommodate different time zones and collaborate with diverse individuals so I can learn more about different cultures. Furthermore, striving to implement new ideas and approaches when working with clients is something I enjoy. My colleagues and clients are always receptive to new ideas and concepts and always look for ways to innovate, which is one of the best things about my job.”
A typical day in your job:
“As part of my daily routine, I perform a walk around the office for the first five minutes after I arrive. This is a standard practice to ensure no concerns within my team.
I then cordially invite my team to meet with me when they are available to ensure optimal coordination with individuals across different time zones. These brief meetings allow me to inquire about their recent activities and the general status of ongoing projects. After that, I will resume my work, and I can review my schedule and tasks. I fit my schedule to any changes or additional information that may have been incorporated since my working day started.
Each day, I find a matter of professional responsibility towards my team. Blue Power Partners has a commendable work-life balance, allowing flexibility in accommodating family commitments across different time zones, which I ensure to incorporate. It also allows people to engage in new concepts and ideas, as it includes adaptable aspects and can be implemented in various ways across working hours and cultures.”
What motivates you to work as a head of wind & solar engineering at Blue Power Partners?
“I am a forward-thinking individual attuned to a project’s potential outcomes. I approach pitching strategically, considering various work styles and methodologies. It is essential to be prepared for the forward market and ready for its arrival. These opportunities and value engineering thinking are crucial and motivate me to further my learning.
About projects, they will undergo multiple phases: origination, development, construction, and operation. All these phases contribute to my daily motivation, putting further learning at my disposal. The field of sustainability is another area of interest. It is part of my motivation to contribute to a better future.”
How did you come to be in this position?
“I began my career as the first employee in the Indian office of Blue Power Partners. I was promoted to the position of head of wind and solar analytics. Subsequently, I transitioned to the engineering aspect of wind engineering and optimization. After two and a half years, I transitioned into the Head of Wind and Solar Engineering and the role of leading the office.”
Why did you want to work for Blue Power Partners?
“When I started at Blue Power Partners, we began with an entrepreneurial and forward-thinking mindset, emphasizing the importance of empathy for customers and a comprehensive understanding of their needs. Now, we have moved further to an approach that moves outside of market standards by focusing on the client’s needs. Stakeholders expressed their approval of this concept, so this is the process we are currently following.
This pattern of behavior persists even though the company continues to expand. That is why I have been committed to Blue Power Partners for so long – the ability to develop and improve.”
Karthik’s prospects are open, and it interests him to expand his cultural knowledge. His approach is learning by doing, resulting in achieving more than planned. This is evident in his development of roles. He does not perceive challenges out of his comfort zone as negative; instead, he views them as opportunities for gaining deeper insights into his abilities and personal growth. His dual roles reflect an entrepreneurial approach to learning and the collaborative spirit of Blue Power Partners. This allows him to contribute alongside his colleagues to the company’s ongoing development.
