Meet Charlie Perry, Senior Project Manager in our Australian branch, and explore the possibilities of working for a company that puts trust in its employees at the centre of everything it does. Charlie has been a part of Blue Power Partners since 2022 and joined us after he had already been working within the renewable energy industry for several years.
“The opportunity to work on large-scale renewable energy projects that are close to or under construction was what attracted me to BPP. I value the sense of accomplishment that comes with making projects a reality”.
As Senior Project Manager at Blue Power Partners, Charlie’s day-to-day work closely focuses on driving progress in the late-stage development or construction of projects. This is all about understanding the requirements or specific challenges related to a project and finding ways to work through them.
“It often means working with the BPP team and various project stakeholders to navigate a way through problems, often where conflicting priorities need to be considered and so compromise is almost always required. That said, projects are all about getting things done, which is something we value highly at BPP”.
Being part of Blue Power Partners aligns with Charlie’s interest in working in the renewable energy sector, as he has always been interested in constructively contributing to a better future:
“It means a lot to me to have the chance of being part of something bigger and positively influencing the energy transition. Within BPP, I’m involved in this daily along with a very talented group of colleagues. It’s not always easy but this higher purpose and the satisfaction of delivering projects for our clients is very rewarding.”
Since joining Blue Power Partners, Charlie has appreciated the trust that the company has put in him. It has meant a significant amount of learning by doing which has shaped him into the respected leader he is within the organisation.
“It took a little bit of time for me to find the right balance between diving in to help and trusting my team to run with things. I have become better at giving team members greater responsibility whilst still supporting them by tapping into my own experience. We have also come to accept that external factors can shape projects despite the best efforts of the BPP team”.
Looking towards the future of the renewable energy industry, Charlie is cautiously optimistic. He hopes to continue contributing to the positive change he sees in Australia.
“I hope to see projects continue being approved, financed and built across Australia, as I believe increasing the share of renewables in our energy supply mix is a good thing for the future of Australia and our planet”.
When it comes to his own role, Charlie intends to stay close to the action and continue pushing for projects to happen despite the challenges in approvals, community support and grid connections. He hopes completed projects will build confidence among developers that community support is broad so they continue investing in renewable energy.
“Empirical evidence is powerful. Confidences grows when people see renewable projects operating with minimal impacts on and ultimately significant benefits flowing to host communities and society at large ”.
